Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan which is already facing delays, has found itself in further problems, after the film was leaked on piracy platforms in the early hours of Friday. Several leading celebrities from the industry condemned the act and appealed to audiences to avoid engaging with pirated content. Vijay’s friend and producer Archana Kalpathi took to social media to issue a note on the the ethical impact of piracy and asked netizens to support films in theatres. Megastar Chiranjeevi has also posted a strongly worded message on social media.
South Indian Celebrities Against Jana Nayagan Piracy Leak
Originally planned for a Pongal release, Jana Nayagan faced setbacks due to censor certification issues, pushing its release further. The latest piracy incident has only added to the challenges faced by the makers. Sivakarthikeyan called for strict action against those responsible for the leak, writing about the seriousness of the issue. Actor, composer, and producer Vijay Antony also expressed disappointment, urging audiences to support films through legal platforms upon release. Producer Suresh Kamatchi spoke about the financial and emotional toll such incidents take on producers, especially for big-budget films like Jana Nayagan. Vishal expressed his disappointment over the leaked videos of Jana Nayagan, calling it disheartening to see the immense effort, dedication, and hard work behind the film being undermined. He shared that, as a fan of Vijay for over two decades, he has always enjoyed watching his films in theatres, celebrating every moment. Even if the film were to release on OTT or satellite, he said fans would still support it from home, though the theatrical experience would be missed.
He posted about the difficult financial and strategic decisions faced by the production house and expressed hope that the film would release in theatres soon. Vishal also mentioned that while he does not see the film as controversial, he respects the censor board’s perspective and remains hopeful that audiences will get to watch the film through proper means.
Shanthnu, who worked with Vijay in Master, wrote about the emotional impact of such incidents, writing that piracy undermines the effort behind filmmaking. Sibi Sathyaraj expressed shock and asked audiences not to watch or circulate the leaked footage, while Draupathi 2 director Mohan G posted on the mental pressure faced by filmmakers and called for greater responsibility from viewers.
Producer Archana Kalpathi who produced Vijay’s Bigil, also posted about the issue, writing about the ethical and human impact of piracy. She stated that watching pirated content is not harmless and is comparable to taking something from a store without paying for it. She posted that every film represents the hard work of thousands of individuals, including writers, technicians, and artists, whose efforts deserve respect. She further appealed to audiences to choose to support creativity by not sharing or consuming pirated content. Encouraging fans to celebrate cinema the right way, she called on viewers to experience Jana Nayagan in theatres and support it through a proper first day first show.
Legal Action and Warning from Makers
In response to the leak, the makers of Jana Nayagan have issued a strong legal notice, categorizing the act as a serious criminal offence and a violation of copyright laws. The production house, KVN Productions, confirmed that unauthorized copies of the film had been accessed and circulated across various digital platforms.
The legal notice also warned that individuals involved in downloading, sharing, or forwarding the leaked content through platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, X, YouTube, and torrent sites would face legal consequences. The makers have taken a firm stance, signaling zero tolerance towards piracy. Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan is Vijay’s final film before his political entry. It also stars Pooja Hegde and Mamitha Baiju.
