Vijay Thanks Allies, Targets DMK In Fiery Post After TN Assembly Trust Vote

vijay thanks allies, targets dmk in fiery post after assembly trust vote

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister “Thalapathy” Joseph Vijay thanked his allies and people of the state after winning the floor test on Wednesday. In a fiery message on his X account, Vijay also targeted the DMK. Notably, Vijay comfortably won the crucial Assembly floor test, securing the future of the newly formed TVK government. The DMK staged walk out during the Assembly proceedings.

“To all the people of Tamil Nadu who live in my heart, Hello. Today, in the Legislative Assembly, we, as the Chief Minister who cares about the welfare of the people, brought a resolution seeking confidence in the people’s government, that is, our government. A debate was held on it. People… Various legislative parties spoke in support of and against your beloved government, in which you have placed great trust. Some also announced their neutrality. Some even walked out,” The Tamil Nadu CM wrote in his X post.

“We thank the honorable members of the Legislative Assembly from all movements who have put their trust in our people’s government and voted for us. Similarly, we thank again the leaders of all movements who have supported us,” he added.

Vijay Targets DMK:

Vijay launched a sharp attack on the DMK. He accused the DMK of refusing to accept political reality and repeatedly claiming that his government lacks majority public support. Vijay argued that his TVK secured a higher vote share and more votes than the DMK despite contesting alone, while the DMK relied on alliance partners.

“The arrogant DMK, which knows everything, will never understand reality. Therefore, let us share some facts about votes with the people. The vote percentage of TVK is 34.92. That is, almost 35 percent. But, although it is true that the DMK, the party of the Honorable Opposition Leader, won at least some seats by getting the votes of the alliance parties, do you know what the vote percentage of the DMK individually is?. Only 24.19 percent. That is, less than 10 percent than the vote percentage of the TVK which contested alone without an alliance,” he added.

He also accused the DMK of hypocrisy for questioning outside support to his government, pointing to the party’s past alliance with the BJP in 1999. Vijay said the DMK was spreading lies, engaging in “digital politics,” and trying to mock his government out of frustration after electoral setbacks.

“What can we say about the DMK, which burdens the people with debt and pretends that it was a loan for development, and then looks at us and says that it borrowed support? It is because we are firm in our secular stance that our government was supported by the Congress, V.C.K., C.P.I., C.P.I. (M) and Indian Union Muslim League parties. The leaders of these parties also expressed it in the media. I do not understand on what account the DMK is mocking this. We leave that to your people’s view and decision,” Vijay wrote.

Vijay Wins Floor Test:

During the trust vote, Vijay gained backing from the Congress, CPI(M), VCK, IUML, DMDK and a lone AMMK MLA, days after taking oath as Chief Minister following a fractured verdict in the 2026 Assembly election.

Out of the 234 MLAs, Vijay bagged the support of 144 MLAs, including 105 legislators of his party. Notably, Vijay resigned from one seat, one MLA refrained, and one seat goes to the Speaker. The floor test exposed a split within the AIADMK. A rebel faction led by senior leaders SP Velumani and CV Shanmugam. openly signalled support for Vijay during the Assembly proceedings, triggering chaotic scenes in the House.

The confidence motion was opposed by 22 AIADMK MLAs of the Edappadi Palaniswami camp.
