Police in Louisiana are investigating a shooting outside a nightclub in the city of Thibodaux that left seven people injured on Sunday night. The shooting happened shortly after 22:00 local time near the intersection of East 10th Street and Narrow Street, according to Thibodaux Police Department officials.
Authorities said seven people suffered gunshot-related injuries, although the wounds are believed to be non-life-threatening. Several other people were also hurt while attempting to flee the scene, police said.
Investigators have not released information about any suspects. Police said officers were continuing to process evidence, interview witnesses and follow multiple leads as the investigation remains ongoing.
The ages and conditions of the victims were not disclosed by authorities, but Thibodaux Police chief Bryan Zeringue said none of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening. The gunfire erupted Sunday around 10 p.m., outside of a nightclub near the intersection of East 10th and Narrow streets, police said.
“At this stage of the investigation, authorities have confirmed that seven individuals sustained gunshot-related injuries during the incident,” the department said in a statement. “All reported injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening. Several additional injuries were also reported as patrons attempted to flee the area following the shooting.
“Detectives continue to process evidence, interview witnesses and follow up on investigative leads related to the incident. This investigation remains active and ongoing.”
Lafourche Parish councilman DeJae’ Broomfield said in a social media post that his heart “is with everyone affected” by what he called a “tragic event.” Thibodaux Police said more information on the incident would be released “as it becomes available and can be shared with the public without compromising the integrity of the investigation.”
