A tornado warning is in effect for parts of Baltimore County, Maryland, and northeastern areas of Baltimore, Maryland, as a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado moved through the region, according to the National Weather Service.
The warning, issued by the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington at 7:30 PM EDT on March 11, 2026, remained in effect until 7:45 PM EDT for central Baltimore County and northeastern Baltimore City.
Meteorologists said the storm was located over Towson, Maryland, or near Pikesville, Maryland, and was moving east at 50 mph. Radar indicated rotation within the storm, raising the threat of a tornado.
Communities expected to be in the storm’s path included Baltimore, Maryland, Towson, Maryland, Parkville, Maryland, Carney, Maryland, Perry Hall, Maryland, Rossville, Maryland, Timonium, Maryland, White Marsh, Maryland, Hampton, Maryland, and Lutherville‑Timonium, Maryland around 7:35 PM EDT.
Other areas impacted by the storm included Fullerton, Maryland, Ruxton, Maryland, Lutherville, Maryland, Loch Raven Village, Maryland, Eudowood, Maryland, Riderwood, Maryland, Loch Raven, Maryland, and Brooklandville, Maryland.
Officials warned that flying debris could be dangerous for anyone caught outside if a tornado touches down. Potential impacts include damage to roofs, siding, and windows, destruction of mobile homes, and likely tree damage. The severe thunderstorm could also produce pea-sized hail.
A warning graphic showed approximately 210,486 residents, 39 schools, and four hospitals located within the red-highlighted risk zone east of Baltimore. The alert was issued as part of Tornado Watch 45, which had been expanded statewide amid level 2 severe weather threats on Wednesday evening.
Authorities urged residents to take cover immediately, moving to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and staying away from windows. Those outdoors, in vehicles, or in mobile homes were advised to seek the nearest substantial shelter and protect themselves from flying debris.
