Elon Musk and Bill Gates are once again in the spotlight after Tesle CEO publicly called the Microsoft founder a liar”on social media platform X. The fresh controversy started when Musk reacted to a post that dismissed Gates’ concerns about funding cuts by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
Musk responded sharply, saying that anyone who believes Gates’ claims is falling for a ‘completely false narrative’.
Musk, who leads Tesla and SpaceX, argued that Gates should use the massive resources of his non-governmental organisation — estimated to have assets of over $80 billion — to solve the issues he talks about, instead of blaming others.
“Why doesn’t he? Bill Gates is a liar. Always has been,” Musk wrot.
This clash isn’t new. Their feud has been building since May 2023, when Gates accused Musk of indirectly harming the world’s poorest children by supporting deep cuts in foreign aid.
Gates had warned that reducing USAID’s funding could increase cases of deadly illnesses like measles, HIV and polio.
In one interview, Gates even said the idea of ‘the world’s richest man killing the world’s poorest children is not a pretty one’.
Musk had earlier worked with a government efficiency task force during the Trump administration, which pushed for major reductions in federal spending — including shutting down USAID. Musk had also referred to the agency as a criminal organisation.
Their ongoing dispute is more than just a personal spat. Both Musk and Gates are influential voices in technology and philanthropy, and their opposite views continue to spark debate worldwide.
