According to local outlet El Deber, the incident involved a military Hercules C-130 aircraft that crashed around 6:00 PM local time on Friday, February 27, 2026. Eyewitnesses said the aircraft appeared to experience difficulties during landing or takeoff near the airport facilities before going down.
Emergency response teams, including firefighters, police and Bolivian Air Force personnel, are currently at the site. Casualties have not yet been officially confirmed, and authorities have not released details about the number of people on board or the exact cause of the crash. Possible factors such as mechanical failure or runway conditions at the high-altitude airport are being speculated.
