Chennai: Several parts of Chennai will face a planned power outage on Monday (January 12, 2026) as electricity supply will be suspended for maintenance work, officials said. The shutdown is expected to last for five hours, from 9 am to 2 pm, and residents have been advised to plan their day accordingly.

Redhills, Kilkondaiyur, Arakkampakkam, Karlapakkam, Thamaraipakkam, Kathavur, Velachery, Pondeswaram, Karanai, Pudhukuppam, Vaniyan chathiram, Ayilacherry, Guruvoyil, Poochiyathipedu, Koduvalli, Palpannai Road, Vel Tech Road, Kollumedu Road, Puthu Nagar, Bypass Road, Sothuppakkam Road, New Star City, Kalikuppam, Azhinjivakkam, Balaji Garden, Aaroon Ullsa City, Vadagai, Maharaja Nagar, M.H. Road, Vinesh Nagar, Thiruvika Nagar, TNK Nagar, Anpu Nagar, Vilangadupakkam, Mallima Nagar, T.H. High Road, Aalamaram, Gandhi Nagar, Aasi Thambi Street and above all surrounding areas.
Officials said the outage is being carried out as part of routine maintenance work, which includes essential checks and repairs to ensure smoother power supply.

The city is expected to stay on the wetter side for the next couple of days, with Sunday seeing a partly cloudy sky and one or two spells of rain or thundershowers, along with a thunderstorm and lightning warning. Monday is likely to remain generally cloudy with moderate rain, while Tuesday may bring light rain. From mid-week onwards, conditions are expected to improve with partly cloudy skies, and temperatures may gradually rise, touching around 30–31°C by January 16–17.
