India Squad Announcement Live Updates: Ajit Agarkar will name India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2026 on Saturday and also hold a press conference at 1:30 PM IST on Saturday (December 20). The announcement will come just a day after the Men in Blue name their squad for the mega event, which is scheduled to take place from February 7 to March 8.
India will announce their squad just a day after the final game of the ongoing T20I series against South Africa on Friday (December 18) in Ahmedabad. India still has five T20Is before the mega event. However, they will start after the initial deadline, and the same squad is likely to play.
The big concern is around the form of Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav, who are the vice-captain and captain of the team. Will India take a bold call and move on from either is the big question. Yashavi Jaiswal has been kept out of the squad despite his brilliant record. Will he find a way back? Jitesh sharma and Sanju Samson have been kept as wicket-keepers since the Asia Cup, but Jitesh is yet to play any impactful knock while Samson was moved up and down the order and later removed from the playing XI. Will India keep the same keepers or could Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel get a call-up?
Shreyas Iyer has not played a T20I for India since December 2023 and with him still recovering from injury,
Rinku Singh was left out of the squad to play South Africa after being a regular in the team. Will he miss out on a second T20 World Cup in a row?
India Likely Squad: Suryakumar Yadav (C), Shubman Gill (VC), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Sanju Samson (WK), Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana
