New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi tore apart Rahul Gandhi, calling him the “Yuvraj of Congress” with a shrewd (Shaatir) mind, after the latter referred to a former Congress leader and now a BJP Member of Parliament and Union Minister, Ravneet Singh Bittu, as a traitor, terming it an insult to Sikhs. The Prime Minister, who was addressing the Rajya Sabha on the motion of thanks to the President’s address on Thursday, said that several leaders have left Congress in the past, the party had many factions, but he never called any other as a traitor, but why only him, because he is a Sikh and it’s an insult to Sikhs. It displays the hatred in the Congress party against the Sikhs and its leaders’ arrogance.
On Wednesday, after Rahul Gandhi called Ravneet Singh Bittu a traitor, Delhi Minister Majinder Singh Sirsa lashed out at the Congress, strongly condemning his act. In a statement, Sirsa said, “I strongly condemn in the harshest terms the way Rahul Gandhi made remarks against a Sikh minister, calling Sardar Ravneet Singh Bittu a traitor. Such a despicable mindset has repeatedly labelled Sikhs in this manner, sometimes as terrorists, sometimes as people dividing the nation. I want to make it clear, the Sikh community in India is loyal to the country, and it is the Gandhi family, not them, that has acted against India…”
After yesterday’s heated exchange, BJP leaders and workers staged a protest near the Congress headquarters on Akbar Road against Rahul.
The protesters gathered at Mansingh Road near Congress headquarters and raised slogans, “Sikh Sardar Hai, Rahul Gandhi Gaddar Hai”, demanding an apology from the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha.
Police said that some of the protesters were trying to climb the barricades. At least seven to 10 of them have been detained. Leading the protest, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said, “Gandhi not just abused an individual but the entire Sikh community, which is the pride of the country.”
