John Ternus, Apple’s Vice President of hardware engineering, has reportedly donned a new hat to head the design team at Apple, replacing CEO Tim Cook. Ternus is being looked upon as the first choice to replace Tim Cook as the potential CEO of Apple, and this new responsibility points towards one thing: He is very close to becoming the CEO. In recent years, he also did more public-facing work in the launch events of Apple.
According to a report published by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Cook assigned the design team to Ternus last year in December. Nonetheless, the internal and external organizational charts of Apple still don’t show the updated details.
The report mentioned that Ternus is the executive sponsor for all design work within Apple, and he is the one who handles design discussions in these meetings of the executive team for both hardware and software.

Apart from that, it is also being said that Tim Cook is including Ternus in other aspects of Apple’s business, which also works as a stamp on the fact that the latter will be the successor of Cook.
