Claims circulating on social media that Houston Rockets forward Kevin Durant has been suspended by the NBA over allegations involving a so-called “burner” account are false. There has been no announcement from the NBA regarding any suspension, and no investigation has been confirmed. The rumours began after users on X identified a now-private account that allegedly discussed internal matters concerning Rockets players.
Some online speculated that the account belonged to Durant, citing what they described as “clues”, including the use of an owl profile image and a GIF that Durant had previously shared from his verified account. However, there has been no official confirmation linking the account to the player.
The speculation has been fuelled in part by Durant’s past admission in 2019 that he had used burner accounts to interact anonymously with friends on social media.
Screenshots circulating online, purportedly from the private account, show messages discussing NBA players including Durant’s current teammate Jabari Parker and former teammates Ben Simmons and Devin Booker. The images appear to depict a group chat conversation on X.
One message attributed to the account reads: “I can’t trust Jabari to make a f**kin shot or get a stop.” Another line in the screenshots includes a derogatory slur. A separate post allegedly shared a meme referencing the user’s “life with Devin Booker and Ben Simmons”.
Neither Durant nor the NBA has publicly responded to the allegations. At present, there is no evidence that any disciplinary action has been taken, and claims of a suspension appear to have originated solely from unverified social media posts.
