laura harris creates history, ex-delhi capitals star equals world record with 15-ball fifty

Australian cricketer Laura Harris put on an incredible display in the Women’s Super Smash 2025-26, blasting the joint-fastest half-century in women’s T20 history during Otago’s match against Canterbury on Sunday, December 28, at Molyneux Park in Alexandra. Harris, who played for the Delhi Capitals in the inaugural two Women’s Premier League (WPL) seasons, intervened when Otago were struggling at 46 for 2 in the sixth over during a frantic run chase of 146. She immediately unleashed a blistering onslaught on the Canterbury bowling attack.

Laura Haris Smahses 15-Ball Fifty

Harris reached her fifty in just 15 deliveries, matching Marie Kelly’s 15-ball fifty for Warwickshire in 2022 as the fastest half-century ever achieved in women’s T20 cricket.

She demonstrated her ability to clear the boundary lane at will with six fours and four sixes during her incredible innings. Harris ultimately finished on 52 off just 17 balls, a performance that won her Player of the Match title in addition to securing Otago’s triumph.

With 31 balls remaining, Otago easily finished the chase in 14.5 overs, winning by six wickets. Harris participated in one game in the WPL’s first season in 2022, but she was not allowed to bat.

Harris had a comparatively quiet season with the Sydney Thunder in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), scoring just 69 runs in eight innings at an average of 11.50 and a strike-rate of 197.14.

Harris would be thrilled with how she has started the Super Smash, despite her poor returns in the WBBL. While playing for Warwickshire earlier in the season, Harris had dabbled with fast scoring records, including a 16-ball fifty against Durham in the Vitality Blast, before to the historic innings against Canterbury.
