A drone attack in southern Russia has damaged a residential building in Krasnodar Krai on Tuesday, as fighting continued across Ukraine and Russia overnight. Russian media and local residents reported that drones targeted the settlement of Novaya Adygeya on the evening of January 20.
During the response by Russian air-defence systems, one missile struck a residential building, triggering a large fire. Videos shared online by residents appear to show the trajectory of a missile launched by a Russian air-defence system before it hits a built-up area. There has been no official comment from local authorities on the incident.
The attack came amid renewed strikes on Ukraine. Explosions were reported in the capital, Kyiv, after Ukraine’s air force warned that Russia had launched ballistic missiles early on Tuesday.

Ukrainian officials said Russia carried out a large-scale drone assault on the country’s energy infrastructure, cutting electricity supplies to five regions during freezing temperatures. The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia launched 145 drones, of which 126 were intercepted.
In the southern Odesa Oblast, energy and gas infrastructure were damaged, the regional governor said, adding that one person was injured. DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private energy firm, said one of its facilities in the region was “substantially” damaged, leaving 30,800 households without power.
Russia also struck Ukraine’s second-largest city, Kharkiv, with missiles on Monday, significantly damaging a critical infrastructure facility, according to the city’s mayor, Ihor Terekhov. He did not specify the type of facility affected.
Separately, Russia’s defence ministry said its forces had taken control of the settlements of Pavlivka in Ukraine’s Zaporizhia region and Novopavlivka in the Donetsk region. Those claims could not be independently verified.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine’s armed forces were introducing a new air-defence approach using small groups of interceptor drones. Speaking in his nightly video address, he also said he hoped to sign documents with the United States on post-war security guarantees during talks in Davos this week.
The Kyiv Independent reported that Ukraine’s SBU security service had captured a Russian soldier suspected of executing nine Ukrainian prisoners of war in 2024.
Meanwhile, Reuters reported that Kirill Dmitriev, a special envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin, is expected to travel to Davos this week for meetings with members of the US delegation on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum, citing sources familiar with the plans.
