The final crystal for the New Year’s Eve Constellation Ball now sits on top of One Times Square in New York City. The seven foot tall 2026 numerals already light the skyline.

America250, One Times Square and the Times Square Alliance announced that the famous Times Square Ball will be dropped in two historic moments in 2026. It will shine during New Year’s Eve and again during Independence Day events in July as part of the United States Semiquincentennial.

What Will Happens On New Year’s Eve?

Organizers installed thousands of crystals on the Constellation Ball. Crews prepared lighting, timing systems, fireworks and confetti. Cameras and screens across One Times Square set the stage for the main countdown.

At midnight on December 31, the Times Square Ball will drop as always. After the drop finishes, the celebration will continue. At around 12.04 am on New Year’s Day, the ball will lit up again in red, white and blue. The design honors America250. The Ball rises above the glowing 2026 numerals. This creates a second ceremonial moment, separate from the countdown.

The ceremony will play a video titled America Turns 250. Crews will release about 2,000 pounds of confetti in the same patriotic colours. A pyrotechnic finale will follow. The music will feature Ray Charles singing “America the Beautiful”.

Jamestown President Michael Phillips said One Times Square stands as a place where major events happen. He said it feels right that the Semiquincentennial begins there. Times Square Alliance President Tom Harris said the partnership helps start the first minutes of 2026 with energy and purpose, setting the tone for a full year of national remembrance.

Why Will Times Square Ball Drop Again In July?

For the first time in history, the Times Square Ball will return for another major event. The plan sends the Ball back into the spotlight on July 3, 2026. The special drop will open national Independence Day celebrations. Leaders said this will show the role of New York City in the story of the United States.

America250 leads the national program. Congress designated the group to guide events, storytelling and remembrance tied to the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The work happens with the US Semiquincentennial Commission and the nonprofit partner America250.org, Inc.
