The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has taken an important step ahead of the Uchha Madhyamik Semester 4 Examinations 2026 by distributing model question papers to students and schools across the state. According to WBCHSE President Chiranjib Bhattacharya, model question papers cover 22 subjects and have been available since January 27, 2026. These papers are designed to reflect the expected format and structure of the upcoming board exams, enabling students to prepare more effectively.
WBCHSE Examination Schedule and Curriculum Updates
The Uchha Madhyamik Semester 4 board examinations will take place from February 12 to February 27, 2026. Ahead of the exams, the council uploaded PDF copies of the model question papers on its official platform to give students quicker, more convenient, and easier access.
The WBCHSE has detailed the steps taken to update the Higher Secondary curriculum. Bhattacharya noted that the syllabus for several science-focused subjects, including Computer Science and Computer Applications, has been updated to meet current academic standards and technological changes. Additionally, new subjects like Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Cyber Security have been added to ensure that Higher Secondary education in West Bengal remains relevant.
Explanation of the New Semester-Based Examination Pattern
The new semester-based examination framework changes how Uchha Madhyamik question papers are created. These papers aim to improve students’ analytical skills and writing abilities. Semesters One and Three mainly include multiple-choice questions. These questions target reasoning and understanding. On the other hand, Semesters Two and Four focus on short-answer and descriptive questions to develop written expression. This reform officially replaces the annual examination system that had been used since 1978.
WBCHSE Semester 3 Results for 2025–26
Earlier, the WBCHSE announced the Semester 3 Uchha Madhyamik results for the 2025–26 academic session on October 31 during a press conference held at the council’s office in Salt Lake, Kolkata.
The overall pass percentage stood at 93.72 per cent. Approximately 6.45 lakh students appeared for the first-ever semester-based Higher Secondary examinations, with girls making up 56.03 per cent of the total candidates. The examinations were conducted from September 8 to September 22 across 2,106 centres throughout the state.
How Will Model Question Papers Benefit Students?
By practising with these model papers, students can better understand the nature of questions likely to appear in the exams and plan their revision accordingly. Teachers can also use the papers as reference tools for classroom discussions and last-minute guidance.
Education experts have welcomed the move, stating that such preparatory materials are particularly helpful under the semester-based examination system. However, some educators have suggested that releasing model papers earlier in the academic year would further benefit students.
Overall, the distribution of model question papers is expected to play a key role in helping Uchha Madhyamik candidates approach the 2026 board examinations with greater confidence and preparedness.
