A federal officer reportedly had his finger bitten off during chaotic protests in Minneapolis following the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti on Saturday.

DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin shared photos on X showing the officer’s severed right ring finger in a plastic cup at a hospital. She said the finger was bitten off by one of two protesters she photographed, though she did not identify which individual was responsible.

“He will lose his finger,” McLaughlin wrote in her post. US President Donald Trump later re-shared the images and posts on Truth Social.

However, the officials have not yet shared details regarding who bit the finger of the federal officer.

The attack occurred as demonstrations erupted after 37-year-old Alex Pretti, a Minneapolis resident and US citizen, was shot and killed by Border Patrol agents during a federal operation earlier that morning.

Videos from the scene show heightened tension as protesters confronted federal law enforcement officers.

McLaughlin said the protests against ICE and Border Patrol had become “chaotic” and aggressive. Some protesters reportedly physically attacked federal officers, including biting one officer’s finger.

The incident came amid ongoing demonstrations after the recent killing of Renee Good by ICE.

Details Of Alex Pretti Shooting Incident

Border Patrol Chief Greg Bovino said that Alex Pretti “approached” agents with a 9mm semi-automatic handgun while they were attempting to apprehend a violent illegal immigrant from Ecuador. Agents tried to disarm Pretti, but he resisted, prompting an officer to fire in fear for his life.

Bovino said that Pretti had two loaded magazines and no accessible ID, saying it looked like he “wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement.” Pretti was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the shooting, dozens of protesters gathered near West 26th Street and Nicollet Avenue South, blowing whistles and demanding that federal agents be arrested.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey criticized the Trump administration, saying it was “terrorising” the city.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz called the shooting “sickening” and urged the federal operation to end.
