The popular Colombian singer-songwriter Yeison Jiménez has reportedly died in a plane crash in central Colombia, according to the newspaper El Tiempo.
The outlet said a charter flight departing from Juan José Rondón Airport on Saturday afternoon failed to gain altitude shortly after take-off and crashed in a field near the end of the runway.
El Tiempo reported that Jiménez and five other people, believed to be members of his musical team, were on board the aircraft. The singer, who was from the town of Manzanares in the department of Caldas, had earlier performed in Boyacá and was travelling by private plane to Medellín before continuing to Marinilla, where he was scheduled to perform later that evening.
Authorities and members of Jiménez’s family have not yet issued official statements confirming his death.
Following the reports, a recent interview with the singer has circulated widely on social media. In the interview, recorded in December, Jiménez spoke about recurring dreams in which he died in a plane crash, saying he had experienced the same dream on three occasions.
He said he believed the dreams were a warning from God, and recalled a previous incident in which he narrowly escaped death, describing it as a “miracle”.
Jiménez also spoke about his fear of dying without seeing his son, Santiago, and said the experience had been so distressing that he sought therapy to help deal with the trauma.
