The APP Tour Championships ended the 2025 season in emphatic fashion last weekend at The Fort in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As both the final event and the last Major of the year, the stakes were higher than usual, with prize money offering 1.5x the payout of standard open-level tournaments.
Will Howells clinches two gold
Howells ended the season on a high, winning two gold medals. First, he won the mixed doubles with Bobbi Oshiro and followed that up with the men’s doubles gold with Jack Munro, capping off a dominant performance at the tour finale.

In mixed doubles, Oshiro and Howells faced Sofia Sewing and Casey Diamond, who had earlier stunned Megan Fudge and Jack Munro in the semifinals with an 11-1, 11-6 victory. But on Sunday, Oshiro and Howells proved too strong, closing out the championship match 11-6, 11-8 to claim gold.
In the men’s doubles final, Howells and Munro faced Tanner Tomassi and Richard Livornese Jr., delivering a composed performance to win 11-6, 11-7. The victory marked the duo’s eighth gold medal together on the APP Tour in 2025, tying the record for most titles by a men’s doubles team in a single season.

Sofia Sewing-Shelby Bates bag their second gold together
Bates and Sewing claimed their second women’s doubles gold medal of the 2025 season with a composed and resilient performance. Their run to the title included a semifinal victory over Christine Maddox and Simone Jardim, where they rebounded from a first-game loss to win 7-11, 11-2, 11-5.
The final presented their toughest test yet, as they went up against the season’s most consistent women’s doubles pairing, Megan Fudge and Jill Braverman. The championship match was tightly contested, with momentum swinging repeatedly between the two teams.
Sewing and Bates took control early by winning the opening game 11-5, but Fudge and Braverman answered back in game two, leveling the match with an 11-8 win. In the deciding third game, Bates and Sewing found themselves trailing 2-5 and called a timeout to halt the shift in momentum and avoid heading into the side switch down 6-2.
The pause proved decisive. Coming out of the timeout, Bates and Sewing surged, scoring nine straight points to close out the match and the title with an 11-5 win in game three.
Seone Mendez and Ryler DeHeart Emerge Champions in Singles
Seone Mendez continued her late-season rise by delivering a breakthrough performance to close out 2025. In the Round of 16, Mendez produced one of the tournament’s biggest upsets, knocking out top seed Sewing in a tightly contested three-game match, sealing the win 15-11 in the decider. She carried that momentum all the way to the final, where she defeated Kat Stewart 15-10, 16-14 to claim her first APP Tour singles gold on Saturday.

The men’s singles title also marked a milestone moment. At 41 years old, Rtler DeHeart captured his first-ever APP Tour singles championship after outlasting Dusty Boyer in a demanding final. DeHeart prevailed in back-to-back nail-biters, winning 16-14, 16-14 to secure the landmark victory.
