Michael Vaughan revealed a shocking incident and claimed that he was stuck in a restaurant near Bondi Beach in Sydney, where two gunmen opened fire, resulting in the loss of life of 12 lives as per the latest reports emerging in the Australian media.

For those unversed, Bondi Beach is known to be among Australia’s most iconic beaches and a popular tourist spot. It is not surpising that on a Sunday evening, it was crowded when the incident took place during the peak of the summer season in the country.

Among those around the area was former England captain Michael Vaughan, who is currently in the country as part of the media team for the 2025 Ashes between Australia and England.

Vaughan revealed he was locked inside a restaurant in the area and called it a scary experience. However, he escaped unharmed and paid gratitude to the emergency services.

“Being locked in a restaurant in Bondi was scary .. Now home safe .. but thanks so much to the emergency services and the guy who confronted the terrorist .. thoughts with all who have been affected .. xxx,” wrote Vaughan on X.

What Happened At Bondi Beach?

Authorities have revealed that the gunmen targeted people celebrating the Jewish festival ‘Hanukkah’ who had gathered for an event at the beach called ‘Chanukah by the Sea.’ It has now been revealed that one gunman was neutralised while the other is critical.

A video has emerged on social media that shows a heroic act by a bystander, who disarmed a gunman despite not having any arms.

“The scenes in Bondi are shocking and distressing. “Police and emergency responders are on the ground working to save lives. My thoughts are with every person affected I have just spoken to the AFP Commissioner and with the NSW Premier. We are working with the NSW Police and will provide further updates as more information is confirmed,” said Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in a statement.

“Strongly condemn the ghastly terrorist attack carried out today at Bondi Beach, Australia, targeting people celebrating the first day of the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. On behalf of the people of India, I extend my sincere condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. We stand in solidarity with the people of Australia in this hour of grief. India has zero tolerance towards terrorism and supports the fight against all forms and manifestations of terrorism,” Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote.

The event has been described as the biggest mass shooting in Australia since 1996.
