Reports are emerging of a security incident at Miami International Airport on Sunday, where at least one terminal has been evacuated. Details remain unclear, with unconfirmed accounts suggesting a possible shooting.
Passengers were evacuated from Miami International Airport on Sunday after what authorities described as a security incident, with officials yet to issue a formal statement on the cause.
Videos and eyewitness accounts posted on social media showed travellers leaving terminal areas, as reports circulated of a possible threat. One passenger, posting on X under the name @Monica likes AEW, wrote: “At Miami airport… they are evacuating everyone… no idea why, but they said it is a security issue… let me know if anyone sees any news or anything.”
Another user wrote: “@VirginAtlantic are you aware of any potential delays at Miami, just arrived for a flight later and airport is being evacuated.”

A third post said: “We had to evacuate the Miami airport and they’re not telling us anything, just to leave,” accompanied by a video from the scene. A fourth user suggested the evacuation may have been linked to a bomb threat, writing: “Evacuating Miami airport #mia #miamiairport seems to be a b*** threat, several arrested.”
Miami police and airport authorities have not yet commented publicly on the incident.
The disruption comes as several US states, including Florida, were affected by a major winter storm over the weekend. According to the latest figures, more than 150 flights were delayed and nearly 250 were cancelled at Miami International Airport.
The evacuation follows an earlier security scare at the airport this week, when a comment referencing a bomb prompted a large-scale response.

That incident occurred shortly after 14:00 local time at gate D60-E, as passengers were boarding American Airlines Flight 3963 to Houston. Police said a passenger, identified as 49-year-old Eulalio Felipe Orama, was told his carry-on bag would need to be checked because of limited overhead space.
During an exchange with airline staff that included standard security questions, Orama allegedly replied sarcastically that a bomb would not fit inside the bag. An airline employee told police that Orama appeared irritated by the request and used the word “bomb” in that context.
The remark triggered airport security protocols, prompting the evacuation of the gate area. Law enforcement officers and explosive-detection dogs were deployed to search luggage, nearby areas and the aircraft. No explosives or other threats were found.
Although Orama later told investigators his comment was intended as a joke, authorities said it constituted a serious security violation. He was detained at the gate, questioned by airport police and later taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Court records show Orama has been charged with making a false report concerning the placement of a bomb or explosive, a second-degree felony under Florida law. He was granted bail set at $1,000. The charge carries a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison and fines of up to $10,000.
