The Assam Congress has welcomed the Karnataka government’s decision to change school timings during the holy month of Ramzan, calling it a positive and inclusive step. Congress MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed said the move reflects the true spirit of Indian democracy and shows sensitivity towards students observing the fast during the month.
Speaking on the issue, Rekibuddin Ahmed said that during Ramzan, members of the Islamic community observe fasts that begin early in the morning at the time of Fajr prayers and continue until Maghrib, when Iftar is observed. “People remain fasting throughout the day, and keeping this in mind, the Karnataka government’s decision to adjust school timings is a very good and thoughtful step,” he said.
The Congress MLA emphasized that such decisions uphold the values of inclusiveness enshrined in the Indian Constitution. He said Indian democracy is among the greatest in the world, shaped under the leadership of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, and the Constitution continues to guide policies that respect diversity and coexistence. “This decision truly reflects the spirit of our Constitution,” he added.
Rekibuddin Ahmed, a three-time MLA from Assam, said he wholeheartedly welcomes and appreciates the decision taken by the Karnataka government. He also noted that the Assam Assembly session was scheduled to begin shortly, underlining that the issue holds relevance across states and political boundaries.
Shifting focus to the upcoming elections, Rekibuddin Ahmed said the Indian National Congress is fully prepared and well organized in Assam. He highlighted that under the leadership of Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi, along with senior national leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi, the party is strengthening its base in the state.
He further stated that senior leaders such as K. C. Venugopal, Bhupesh Baghel, Jitendra Singh, Tariq Anwar, and others are actively engaging with the people of Assam. “The upcoming election in Assam will be decided by the people, and the Congress party, along with its alliance partners, is receiving strong support across the state,” he said. Expressing confidence in the party’s prospects, Rekibuddin Ahmed asserted that the Indian National Congress is poised to form the next government in Assam in the coming days.
