The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) held Class 10 and 12 board examinations from February 17 to April 10, 2026, for more than 46 lakh students. The results are expected to be declared between April and May, 2026. Post-result declaration, students who are satisfied with their results can easily get promoted to the higher standard. On the other hand, those who feel dissatisfied with their scores can opt for verification of their marks. Afterwards, the ones who still feel conflicted will have to obtain a photocopy of their answer scripts before going for re-evaluation.
In simpler terms, if a student wishes to apply for re-evaluation, the path is not direct. Here’s a step-by-step guide for students willing to apply for verification of marks, obtaining a scanned photocopy of the answer script, and re-evaluation of answer sheets.
Step 1. Verification of Marks
The first and foremost step is verification of marks. If you feel that your marks have been deducted or left unrewarded unfairly, you can opt for marks verification. Under this facility, your copy will be checked for technical errors. Examiners will verify if there’s a discrepancy in the totaling of marks, if some answers have been left unmarked, and if marks were transferred accurately or not.
Students must note that verification of marks does not mean re-evaluation of the answer sheet, changes based on better interpretation, or re-marking of the answer script.
Here’s what comes under CBSE rechecking (verification of marks).
1. Totaling of marks
• Checking whether all marks awarded for each answer were correctly added.
2. Unmarked answers
• Verifying if any answer was left unchecked by the examiner.
3. Marks transfer
• Checking whether marks were correctly transferred
• From the answer sheet to the cover page
• From the cover page to the CBSE system/mark list.
Step 2: Obtaining a Photocopy of the Answer Sheet
Post-verification, students can request a scanned photocopy of their answer scripts. With its help, they can take a clearer look at the responses marked and assessments done in a particular subject.
Step 3: Apply for Re-evaluation
After getting your marks verified and obtaining a photocopy, if you’re sure about a discrepancy, go for re-evaluation! Submit an application form for the paper you wish to get re-assessed, pay the required fee, and wait for results.
