Sanju Samson achieved a landmark T20 World Cup 2026 campaign. he finished as the highest run-scorer for India in the T20 World Cup 2026, with 321 runs. He won the Player of the tournament, smashing 80+ scores in the final three matches of the tournament. He did not start as a name in the first-choice playing XI, but made the place his own, after being given a chance in the team from the second-last match of the Super 8 stage of the tournament. This story of an inspirational comeback was also invoked by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with respect to the upcoming Assembly Elections in Keralam.
Speaking to BJP workers in Keralam before the Assembly elections, PM Modi said that every worker must adopt the comeback spirit showed by Samson to rise above criticism and contribute when the team needed him the most.
“Sanju showed how to rise above criticism and contribute when the team needed him the most. Every BJP worker in Keralam must adopt that spirit,” Modi said.
“We saw as the crunch situation came in the tournament, the knockout stage came, and Samson’s performance suddenly reached its peak. From start to finish, his focus, his confidence and his intensity kept increasing. This is the identity of a true player. When the team needed him the most, he showed his best,” the Prime Minister added.
How Did Sanju Samson Perform In T20 World Cup 2026?
Sanju Samson replaced an ill Abhishek Sharma and scored 22 against Namibia. He made his comeback in the playing XI in the Super 8 with a 24 against Zimbabwe, before a spectacular turnaround in the three must-win games of the tournament. He smashed 97 not out against the West Indies in a virtual quarter-final, followed by 89 against England in the semi-final and another 89 against New Zealand in the final.
He thus helped India lift their record third T20 World Cup in 2026.
