Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee was allegedly beaten up by locals during his visit to West Bengal’s Sonarpur, when he meant to meet the post-poll violence-affected victims’ families. A video has surfaced showing several locals heckling and beating Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek, who was wearing a cricket helmet, when he went to meet the families who had been affected in the post-poll violence in the state.
Speaking to the press after facing locals’ ire, Abhishek Banerjee alleged that all this was “BJP-sponsored”.
“It’s all BJP-sponsored. Look what they have done. This is their example of democracy. It hasn’t even been a month, and the police are nowhere to be seen,” the TMC MP said.
As per reports, in a high-voltage drama, ‘chor’ slogans were raised against Abhishek and eggs were thrown at him.
Another video has surfaced on social media, posted by PTI on X, formerly Twitter, showed women throwing eggs at Abhishek Banerjee and calling him a ‘thief’ after he went to visit the family of a party worker killed in post-poll violence.
