Six people were injured, including several who were stabbed, during an altercation at Foss High School in Washington state on Thursday, authorities said. Emergency crews responded just before 1:40 PM after reports of a possible stabbing. When firefighters arrived, they found multiple victims and transported them to nearby hospitals, according to the Tacoma Fire Department.
Officials later confirmed that six people were hurt, five students, including the suspect, and one security guard. According to fire officials, four victims were initially reported in serious condition, while two had non-life-threatening injuries. By 4 PM, all victims were said to be in stable condition.
Police said several of the injured had been stabbed during the altercation. The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, is a student and is now in custody, according to the Tacoma Police Department. Authorities have not yet said what led to the incident.
MultiCare Health System confirmed that patients from the scene were being treated at Mary Bridge and Tacoma General Hospital.
The school was placed on lockdown as officers responded, with a large police presence seen outside. All students have since been released.
Foss High School has canceled classes and all after-school activities for Friday, May 1. School officials said additional counselors and staff support will be available when classes resume on Monday, May 4.
