Police in Middletown have issued a shelter-in-place order in parts of the city following a shooting on Tuesday, as officers continue to search for an armed suspect. The Middletown Police Department said initial investigations suggested the shooting was an isolated incident involving people known to one another. No injuries were reported.
In a statement posted on Facebook, police said: “The Middletown Police Department is currently investigating a shooting incident in the city. At this time, investigators believe this to be an isolated incident and that the involved parties are known to one another.”
Authorities said the suspect was believed to be on foot and still in the area. As a precaution, residents in parts of East Street, Westlake Drive, Smith Street, Country Club Road and Atkins Street were ordered to remain indoors while officers searched the neighbourhood.
“Residents in the affected area are urged to remain indoors, lock doors and windows, and immediately report any suspicious activity by calling 911,” the statement said.
Police added that officers from the Middletown Police Department, Cromwell Police Department and the Connecticut State Police were continuing to search the area.
Authorities described the suspect as a white man with long hair and a beard who was last seen wearing black clothing. Police urged the public to avoid the area while emergency personnel carried out their investigation.
