John Ramsey is urging Savannah Guthrie’s family to closely question investigators as the search for Savannah’s missing mother, Nancy Guthrie, stretches past 100 days. During the May 20 episode of Brian Entin Investigates, journalist Brian Entin asked Ramsey what advice he would give the Guthrie family as the case appears to be going cold.

Ramsey, whose 6-year-old daughter JonBenét Ramsey was killed in 1996 in a case that remains unsolved, said families should not automatically trust that authorities are doing everything possible.

“Don’t assume the police are doing everything they can do,” Ramsey said. “They may be, but don’t assume that. Don’t assume they know what they’re doing.” He added, “And really scrutinize what they’re doing. Ask questions. DNA: what’s the status of the DNA? Do you have DNA that doesn’t match anybody in the family? What are you doing with it?”

Ramsey also stressed the importance of bringing in outside resources, saying local police departments may not always have the expertise needed in major investigations.

JonBenét Ramsey was reported missing the day after Christmas in 1996 from the family’s home in Boulder, Colorado. Her body was later found in the basement of the house, and her killer was never identified.

Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of the Today anchor, was reported missing on February 1 after last being seen on January 31. Authorities later released surveillance footage showing what they described as an “armed individual” appearing to tamper with the camera at her front door.

More than 100 days after her disappearance, no suspects or persons of interest have been publicly identified.

Nancy Guthrie is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing around 150 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.

Savannah Guthrie and her family are offering a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to Nancy’s recovery. During an interview with Hoda Kotb, Savannah said she continues to hope and pray someone will come forward.
