Sanjay Gupta Slams FWICE’s Ban On Ranveer Singh: Depriving Workers Of Their Livelihood

sanjay gupta slams fwice ban on ranveer singh depriving workers of their livelihood

The Ranveer Singh vs Farhan Akhtar standoff is currently the biggest dispute in Bollywood. While film body FWICE has stepped into the matter, the fraternity has largely remained silent. One of the first persons to have spoken up on the controversy is director Sanjay Gupta. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, the filmmaker called out FWICE’s decision to impose a ban on the Dhurandhar actor. Sanjay is of the view that the ban will hurt the hundreds of workers associated with a film more than it will hurt Ranveer.

Sanjay Gupta Reacts To Ranveer Singh Facing Ban From FWICE

In his post, Sanjay Gupta highlighted that when a superstar is shooting for a film, there are 300 workers present on the set doing various jobs. That set becomes the source of their livelihood. Thus, if a ban is imposed on that actor, the entire crew will suffer.

His tweet read, “When an A List Hero shoots there are more than 300 workers working on sets. Ban him and you are not stopping him but depriving the workers of their livelihood. What sense does it even make???”

Why Is Ranveer Singh Facing Ban?

In August 2023, Farhan Akhtar officially announced Don 3 with Ranveer Singh in the titular role. The project was expected to go on floors in 2026 and was positioned as one of Excel Entertainment’s biggest bets. But months later, the collaboration collapsed entirely.

Ranveer’s side maintains that the film never reached a stage of creative readiness. According to his camp, there was no locked script even after years of development and multiple story elements remained unresolved.

On the other hand, Farhan alleged that Ranveer withdrew from the project just three weeks before the film’s unit was scheduled to leave for the shoot. Farhan and Ritesh Sidhwani informed FWICE that they had already incurred approximately Rs 45 crore towards the pre-production of the film.

In response to Farhan’s complained, FWICE on May 25 issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer.

Ranveer Singh’s Response

After the ban, Ranveer Singh responded through an official statement expressing respect for the film fraternity and the Don franchise. His team said that silence had been consciously maintained to preserve dignity and avoid fuelling speculation further.

In his response to FWICE earlier, Ranveer had stated that the federation would not be the appropriate forum for the complainants to raise their grievances and that the issues raised were contractual in nature, requiring adjudication before the appropriate legal forum. In other words, he pointed FWICE towards the courts.

FWICE’s Ashoke Pandit stated that the directive was issued not merely because of the Don 3 exit, but because the federation believed its own process had not been respected. Ranveer’s refusal to appear personally before the body is what ultimately pushed FWICE to take action.
