A suspect has been arrested in connection with an early-morning incident at Vice President JD Vance’s Cincinnati home, where four windows were smashed. Authorities say the attack occurred while Vance and his family were out of town, and no one was injured.
Police identified the suspect as 26-year-old William D. DeFoor, who was detained by US Secret Service agents and later charged with obstructing official business, criminal damaging or endangering, criminal trespass, and vandalism. No motive has been released.
Who Is William DeFoor?
According to arrest reports, Secret Service agents spotted DeFoor on the property around midnight and saw him damage four windows and a vehicle before fleeing. He was apprehended shortly afterward. When informed of his rights, DeFoor reportedly responded, “I don’t know.”
The Daily Mail reported that DeFoor appears to have transitioned to female and now goes by the name Julia. A Facebook profile reflecting this identity was reportedly created last month. Court records show DeFoor previously pleaded guilty to vandalism in April after causing more than $2,000 in damage to a business and was sentenced to two years of treatment at a mental health facility, along with restitution.
About William DeFoor’s Parents
DeFoor grew up in Cincinnati’s Hyde Park neighborhood. His father, William DeFoor Jr., is a pediatric urologist at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, and his mother, Catherine DeFoor, is a general pediatrician. Public records reviewed by media outlets indicate both parents are registered Democrats, and his father has donated to Democratic political causes in recent election cycles.
Authorities continue to investigate whether the incident specifically targeted Vice President Vance or his family. DeFoor is scheduled to be arraigned in Hamilton County Municipal Court.
