One person was killed and 32 others were injured after a bus carrying the Iowa Lakes Community College baseball team crashed in northern Iowa on Wednesday. The crash was reported shortly before 11:30 AM along Iowa Highway 4 near 220th Street, just west of Twin Lakes in Calhoun County. Authorities said no other vehicles were involved in the incident. Video from the scene showed emergency crews working to flip the Iowa Lakes bus back upright after it rolled over.

Iowa State Patrol officials confirmed around 2:30 PM that one person died in the crash. Trooper Paul Gardner told KCCI that 33 people were on board at the time. All sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious.
An official with UnityPoint Health said two people were flown by air ambulance to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Ten others were transported to UnityPoint Health – Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.
No crash victims have been publicly identified. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash. Highway 4 reopened around 2:30 PM.
In a statement released around 1:35 PM, Iowa Lakes Community College confirmed the school’s bus was involved. “The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority,” the statement said. “The College is actively supporting those affected and communicating directly with families.”
Iowa Lakes was scheduled to play North Arkansas College in Harrison, Arkansas, on Thursday. North Arkansas issued a statement expressing condolences, saying, “Our hearts are heavy as we grieve alongside the Iowa Lakes College community. The loss of a life is a tragedy that reaches far beyond one campus. We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the individual who passed away, and we are lifting up in prayer those who were injured and all who are affected.”
