New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday said that they have not seen a video of Donald Trump when the US President said that PM Modi is a great man but he “doesn’t want to destroy his career.” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that they will examine the matter and if there is really such a video, then they will take appropriate action. “I have not seen the video… However, if such a video exists, whether it is true or false, we will take appropriate action on it,” Jaiswal said.
The MEA’s response to a reporter’s question came in reference to an old video of Donald Trump that surfaced back in October last year while interacting with the media when he said, “Modi is a great man. He loves Trump… I don’t want you to take the word love any differently. I don’t want to destroy his political career.”
Now in that old video, he made a remark while praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi back in October when he also claimed India has assured them that it will halt purchasing Russian oil. However, India did not make any such commitment to the US administration, and this claim by the President fell flat as many of his other ones.
The video has re-surfaced days after India and the United States announced an interim trade deal agreement, according to which the United States has removed additional tariffs of 25 per cent on Indian imports to the America and reduced reciprocal tariffs from 25 to 18 percent, far below China and other Asian nations.
