New Delhi: India’s passport ranking globally according to the Henley Index improved significantly, moving up 10 places in the latest survey, strengthening its impact further in the global benchmark. According to the latest survey by the Henley Index, India’s passport rank globally now stands at 75, 10 places up from previously 85.

The Henley Passport Index is the original, authoritative ranking of all the world’s passports according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa. The index is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). It’s the largest, most accurate travel information database and enhanced by Henley & Partners’ research team.

With historical data spanning 20 years, the Henley Passport Index is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Authority (IATA). It includes 199 different passports and 227 different travel destinations. The index provides fresh data monthly.

It’s considered the standard reference tool for global citizens and sovereign states when assessing where a passport ranks on the global mobility spectrum.

What’s The Methodology To Rank Passports

Under Henley methodology to rate passports, the mechanism to rate countries’ passports visas takes queue from historical data spanning 20 years. The index and its contents are based on data provided by the International Air Transport Authority (IATA) and supplemented, enhanced, and updated using extensive in-house research and open-source online data.

  • Visa-free score: The total number of destinations for which they do not require a visa
