A large brush fire burned through parts of Osceola County on Sunday afternoon, sending thick smoke across nearby roads and forcing several precautionary evacuations. Fire crews from several agencies rushed to the scene as the blaze grew along the border shared with Polk County.
The fire started near Avenue A in Intercession City, an area surrounded by brush and open land. Heavy smoke soon drifted across South Poinciana Boulevard, reducing visibility and creating dangerous driving conditions.
Officials urged people to avoid the area and to drive carefully because of the high wildfire risk.
Firefighters from several departments, including Osceola County Fire Rescue, Polk County Fire Rescue, Kissimmee Fire Department, a district fire department, and units from Orlando and Lake County worked to contain the flames.

As a safety measure, a nearby facility belonging to Restaurant Depot was evacuated, along with a truck parking lot close to the fire. Although the flames came near homes and businesses, officials said no buildings were damaged.
There were also no immediate reports of injuries.
Earlier on Sunday, firefighters had already dealt with a separate grass fire in the Southport area, which they managed to fully contain.
