The family of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez whose death has led to the arrest of a singer in California have spoken publicly for the first time, describing their grief and calling for justice. The parents of Celeste Rivas said in a statement that their daughter was “a beautiful, strong girl who loved to sing and dance”.
“We would like to thank the Los Angeles Police Department and the District Attorney’s Office for their hard work. We would also like to thank the people of Lake Elsinore for all their support,” they said. “Every Friday night was movie night and we spent wonderful times together.”
They added: “We love her very much and she always told us that she loved us. We miss her deeply. All we want is justice for Celeste.”
The statement was provided by the family’s attorney, Patrick Steinfeld.
Police have arrested David Burke, known professionally as D4vd, in connection with the case. According to authorities, he has been charged with first-degree murder with special circumstances, including murder of a witness, murder for financial gain and lying in wait.
The charges were announced by Nathan Hochman. He also faces charges of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor under 14, and mutilation of a body.
Prosecutors allege that the “murder of a witness” charge relates to the girl’s involvement in a separate investigation into alleged sexual offences. They say the “financial gain” element reflects a belief that the accused feared the allegations could harm his music career.
Burke has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Investigators said Rivas went missing after visiting the suspect’s home in April 2025. Her dismembered body was discovered months later, in September, in the trunk of a Tesla linked to the suspect. The vehicle had been taken to a tow yard, where workers reported a strong odour.
Authorities allege the killing took place in April 2025, with the dismemberment occurring the following month.
Officials have not released further details about the circumstances of the death. Online speculation had circulated after the teenager’s disappearance, suggesting she and the suspect may have known each other and appeared together at events.
The case remains under investigation.
