Sarah Michelle Gellar is mourning yet another friend from her WB and CW series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Last year, she paid tribute to Michelle Trachtenberg, who played her little sister Dawn; in March, she condoled the death of Nicholas Brendon, who played her friend Xander on the cult series. Now, Sarah has to say goodbye to Anthony Head, who died on June 5, six months after the death of his partner Sarah. Head’s daughters Emily and Daisy shared a statement with the BBC revealing that he died from complications of pneumonia. Now, Gellar and her Buffy co-stars, along with Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein and Jeremy Swift, have posted their tributes to the late actor.
Sarah Michelle Gellar mourns Anthony Head
In her Instagram post for Head, Gellar quoted a Buffy line that said, “Tell Giles I figured it out and I’m ok.” Head played Buffy Summer’s Watcher, who guided her journey as a vampire slayer. Echoing the line, the actress shared that she didn’t have it figured out and she was not okay.
But she called herself lucky to have known him. Gellar added, “Thank you to Daisy and Emily who not only shared their dad with me, but with the world.” Eliza Dushku, who played the second vampire slayer Faith, called Head a “dear one,” and wrote, “Tony H, for every scene and timed shared, give thanks. Rest in love and peace, kind sir.”
James Marsters, who played the vampire Spike, shared that Head was an unflaggingly kind and steady presence on the set of Buffy and the best actor in the cast. He echoed Gellar’s words that he was lucky to know him learn for him and thanked him for all he gave. David Boreanaz, who played the vampire Angel, called Head brother and stated the actor was “in laughter and smile always,” and that is how he would remember him.
Other Buffy actresses Charisma Carpenter and Emma Caulfield also mourned the actor. Carpenter who played Cordelia shared that fans were grieving the actor’s portrayal of Giles who became an honorary father figure for them. Caulfield said Head was a “kind and wise and a guide in troubled times.”
Ted Lasso actors Brett Goldstein and Jeremy Swift pay tribute
Head was also part of the Emmy Award-winning series Ted Lasso where he played Rupert Mannion, the former owner of AFC Richmond. Writer and star Goldstein, who plays Roy Kent in the series, posted on his Instagram Stories that Head was a brilliant actor who played the worst person in the world, which was an incredible skill because he was the best person.
The Office Romance star sent love to Head’s family. Jeremy Swift, who plays Leslie Higgins, posted their smiling photo on Instagram and wrote, “Goodbye Tony, we adored you, Rest in Peace, my friend.”
