Delhi Capitals have broken their silence and reacted to Kevin Pietersen’s resignation from his post as the team’s mentor. Pietersen on Saturday (March 14) announced his exit from DC after just one season. He joined his former IPL franchise as a mentor and worked closely with Hemang Badani and Venugopal Rao. “I cannot be a mentor for Delhi Capitals in this IPL season. I cannot commit to the time that the job requires. Best wishes to all the players for this season! However, I’ll see you back in the commentary box! IPL is the world’s best league and I can’t wait to see all of you soon!” Pietersen wrote on X.
Reacting to Pietersen’s exit, DC shared a video featuring unseen moments from his journey with the franchise. “Once a Dilliwala, always a Dilliwala. Thank you for all the love & roars, KP” DC captioned the video.
DC failed to qualify for the second round of IPL 2025. Axar Patel-led DC made a dream start to the season and became the first team to fetch 10 points. They won 5 out of their first six games.
Their form dipped at the start of the second half and they only managed to win 2 more games. DC finished their season with 7 wins. They fetched 15 points at an NRR of +0.011. They signed off from the tournament with a win over Punjab Kings.
Axar will continue to lead DC in the season. He was the vice-captain of the 2026 T20 World Cup-winning team and would be high on confidence going into the 19th season of the T20 league.
